We don't have the papers as evidence. However, I am convinced that one of Tom's Cats, Pepper, has a celebrity bloodline. She's a born performer, and a scene stealer. I think she inherited some of the genes of "Pepper", the first feline movie star. Pepper was an alley cat who walked on to the set of one of Max Sennet's early silent movies. Sennet liked what he saw and a star was born. She appeared in films from 1910 into the 20's. She could learn tricks; a very smart cat. She appeared in a scene with the comedian Ben Turpin playing checkers. She enjoyed great success appearing in films with the Keystone Cops and Charlie Chaplin.

Every star needs famous co-star and Pepper the Cat was paired with Teddy the Wonder Dog. Teddy was a Great Dane, and was the first canine movie hero. In "Teddy at the Throttle" (1917), also produced by Mack Sennett, Teddy rescues a girl chained to the railroad tracks by a mustachioed villain. At this time, Teddy was earning $35 a week under contract to the Keystone Studios! As is appropriate in every great romantic tale, Pepper retired from films after the death of her partner, Keystone Teddy.
