Where do they hide? Yesterday was dark and gloomy. The last time I saw all three cats was at breakfast. Throughout the day Pepper would show up at the sound of some activity. It wasn't until I shook the treat container about 8:00 PM (one of my brother's nightly rituals), that a second cat appeared, Dusty. There was no sign of Butter at all. Usually Butter is the cat that hangs out downstairs during the day. Tom had warned me that the cats like to hide in the corner by the back door. When someone goes in or out they will shoot out of their hiding space in an attempt to explore the great outdoors. They are indoor cats. I've been very careful, but about 11:00 PM I thought, maybe? I had to put the recycling items out for morning pickup. I found three flashlights, only the third had batteries with any sign of life. I put the trash out and spent about 30 minutes looking for a cat with about as much light as that cast by a dying firefly. When I gave up and came inside I was greeted by Butter sitting on the table next to my computer.

Today is sunny. Dusty has spent the day posturing, mewing and running from room to room, tormented by a squirrel. I'd like to think that it is a whole family of squirrels. As one gets bored, they make a signal to the next as the bored squirrel moves out of Dusty's field of view. She races to the next window to be taunted by the previous squirrel's sibling. Nuts for the nut!
