I spilt boiling water on my hand this afternoon. It hurt, it really hurt. I made what, if there had been people around to listen, probably was a blood curdling scream. If no one is around when a tree falls in the forest, does a it make a sound? If Tom's cats could offer evidence, I'm sure they would confirm that I made a sound. A very loud sound!
Last night Pepper was chilling on the window sill near my computer. We were the only pets, humans up in the house. I was trying to finish some work. I did notice that she leaped up rather quickly and bolted from the room. I didn't think much of it, they are always leaping up, running after things, real or imaginary.
Several minutes later there was a blood curdling sound. Probably much like I made this afternoon. Tom came bolting out of his bedroom and raced down the stairs. I didn't race, The Cats are involved in crashes, with things falling, tumbling several times a day. But, this was unusual, so I did investigate. Tom was at a window, jockeying for position with all three of the cats. They were pushing and shoving each other.
Tom had a small flashlight. Every time he turned it on the cats would bounce around. They didn't like that. Tom had me turning porch lights on and off, to no avail. We assume we had a visitor..one of the raccoons probably, maybe a skunk. Tom and I continued to argued about how much light we should shine on the porch. The cats were running from window to window. They probably knew we didn't have a clue as to how to handle the situation. All we had done was ruined a prime viewing position. We had a pretty hectic five or ten minutes
Yes, I did spill boiling water on my hand, "Pepper, on three, at the top of your lungs, tell our audience how I sounded." "Yow wee!!! "
The creature, called Swamp Thing, was originally conceived as Alec Holland mutating into a vegetable-like creature, a "muck-encrusted mockery of a man". However, under writer Alan Moore, Swamp Thing was reinvented as an elemental entity created upon the death of Alec Holland, with Holland's memory and personality intact. He is described as "a plant that thought it was Alec Holland, a plant that was trying its level best to be Alec Holland."
